RECAP:

REDSKINS BASEBALL:

Last night the Redskins finally earned their 20th win, beating Pana 8-5. Izaak Doyen led the way offensively, driving in 7 of our 8 runs with a grand slam in the 5th inning to right center (which tied the game at 5-5) and a walk-off 3 run homer to left. Glenn led off the bottom of the 5th inning with a hard line drive right at the first baseman. Jonas stepped in and beat out an infield single to second base. Blain walked on 4 straight pitches. I put my trust in one of our best hitters to keep the line moving. He did just that with a bloop single into center field. Doyen stepped up and smoked an 0-1 curveball to one of the deepest parts of the park, tying the game up. Levi settled in on the mound in relief of Blain allowing only 1 base runner the next 2 innings.

Bottom of the 7th, Pana puts in their Ace to shut us down, but we had other plans. Blain led off the inning with a single off the 3rd baseman's glove. After the thought of using Levi to bunt a runner over into scoring position, I trusted my guys to swing the bat. Levi hits a line drive single up the middle to put us at first and second and nobody out. Doyen steps up to the plate and we were both thinking the same thing at first, put a bunt down the line and at least get two guys in scoring position to improve our chance to win. He had the confidence to get the bunt down and help the team win. I didn't give him the sign he was looking for. Instead, I put my faith in another one of our best hitters, and he didn't miss his opportunity. He looked at a fastball for strike one. The second pitch was another fastball and he lifted it over the left field fence to win the game for us.

Doyen was 2/4 with 2 home runs and 7 RBIs.

Levi was 2/4 with 2 singles.

Jonas, Blain, and Herby each chipped in a single as well.

Blain started on the mound throwing 3 innings of work allowing 4 runs, 3 earned on 3 hits, 3 walks, and 1 strikeout. Levi threw 4 innings of work allowing 1 run, 1 earned on 3 hits, 0 walks, and 6 strikeouts.

The Redskins are 20-12 on the season.

REDSKINS TRACK AND FIELD:

On Thursday, Camryn Engelman participated in the 1A State Track Meet at Eastern Illinois University.  She qualified for the long jump and the triple jump at sectionals.  She was in the 2nd flight of long jump.  She jumped 15’ 4” in the long jump placing 32 out of 48.   After the long jump, she completed in the 2nd flight of the triple jump as well.  She jumped 33’ 6” her first jump and improved to 33’ 6.5” on her second jump.  Her final attempt was 33’ 10.25” and was only a ¼ inch off of her personal best.  This had her in 5th place after the first two flights.  After the 3rd flight was finished, she was tied for 12th place with her final jump.   With this placement she will advance to finals on Saturday at Eastern.  Great job Camryn!! Wish her luck if you see her!

He also threw a new personal best in the discus throwing 104’ 4.75” feet and earning a new school record in the discus throw.  This throw earned him 19th place overall.
