Mrs. O'Malley's students working hard on figuring out Areas.

The theme of our reading unit was symbolism. Mrs. Brownback's 5th grade class discussed how authors use symbolism in stories to help create deeper meanings in text. Sometimes symbolism can be a concrete example and sometimes they are more abstract. After reading text and identifying different types of symbolism, students created a piece that symbolized them. These pieces were crafted from clay and then painted. Each student wrote a little paragraph about how this piece was symbolic to themselves and shared them with the class.
